Sewanhaka CTE cosmetology Building
MDS partnered with the Sewanhaka Central High School District to design a new, standalone cosmetology building that sets a new standard for Career and Technical Education (CTE) learning environments. The 5,200-square-foot facility replaces outdated classrooms inside the main high school building with a modern, professional-grade salon setting purpose-built for hands-on instruction and real-world experience. Through this CTE program, students gain industry-recognized skills, state licensing preparation, and early exposure to real client interactions- building confidence and pathways to future careers in the beauty industry.
The single-story building features two large cosmetology classrooms, each equipped with individual styling stations, hair washing stations, pedicure and manicure stations, and a fully operational color bar. The program also includes student lockers, support spaces, and a welcoming lobby designed to function as a reception area for clients from the community.
Every detail of the facility was thoughtfully designed to replicate the look, feel, and workflow of a contemporary salon, while meeting the functional needs of an educational program. Durable materials, modern finishes, and abundant natural light create a bright and professional atmosphere that inspires confidence and creativity.
By blending aesthetics with performance, the design bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. The new cosmetology building provides students with an authentic, hands-on experience that prepares them for state licensing and future careers in the beauty and personal care industry.
Through close collaboration with district administrators, educators, and instructors, MDS created a space that is both inspiring and practical- an environment that empowers students to learn, grow, and succeed in a setting that reflects the professional standards of their chosen field.
