
WANTAGH UFSD BOND REFERENDUM
WANTAGH UFSD $53.5 mILLION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT bOND
In December 2022, the Wantagh Union Free School District passed a comprehensive capital improvement plan to modernize and enhance its educational facilities. The bond referendum was designed to address critical infrastructure needs and improve student amenities across the district's aging schools. Mark Design Studios Architecture PC collaborated with the district develop a cohesive and forward-thinking plan that ensured that the proposed improvements aligned with educational goals and community needs. The Wantagh community supported the following improvements which have been approved by NYSED and currently in construction.
Proposition #1: Infrastructure Modernization – $39.5 Million
This proposition focused on essential upgrades to the district's core infrastructure:
· Window Replacements: $16.7 million allocated for new, energy-efficient windows across all schools.
· HVAC System Overhaul: $19.8 million for replacing unit ventilators and installing air conditioning in all instructional spaces.
· Electrical System Upgrades: $3 million to modernize electrical services, ensuring safety and supporting new technologies.
Proposition #2: Student Amenities & Learning Spaces – $14 Million
This proposition targeted enhancements to student facilities:
· Cafeteria Renovations: $6.1 million for a complete renovation of the Wantagh High School cafeteria and kitchen replacements at all elementary schools.
· Courtyard and Outdoor Learning Spaces: $155,000 for creating outdoor eating and learning spaces at the high school and middle school.
· Library Renovation: $4.7 million to renovate the high school library and adjacent classrooms.
· Bathroom Upgrades: $3 million for bathroom renovations across all schools.
