An Architecturally Designed Destination for Fun and Recreation
Completed as a vibrant addition to Tobay Beach in Lido Beach, NY, the Tobay Beach Spray Park & Mini Golf is a thoughtfully designed recreational space that combines playful water features, a family-friendly playground, a beautifully crafted deck area, and a coastal-themed miniature golf course. The design emphasizes accessibility, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal, creating an engaging environment for visitors of all ages.
Design Features:
Interactive Spray Park Equipment: The spray park features a variety of interactive water elements designed to engage children and families in dynamic play. With motion-sensor-activated spray jets, water arches, and misting fountains, the design offers a wide range of water activities in a safe, shallow environment. The colorful water features are arranged in playful patterns that invite interaction, while the non-slip surfaces ensure safety.
Inclusive Playground Design: In conjunction with the spray park, the playground was designed to cater to a diverse range of abilities. Featuring adaptive play structures, including swings, climbing walls, and sensory play panels, the space promotes active play and social interaction. The playground’s safety surfacing provides a safe area for children to play and explore, making it accessible for children with mobility challenges.
Expansive Deck Area: A spacious wood deck area surrounds the spray park and playground, offering a comfortable space for families to relax and enjoy the environment. Shaded seating areas provide shelter from the sun, and the design incorporates curved, organic forms that mimic the natural shapes of the beach and the water. The deck acts as a central gathering area, seamlessly connecting the spray park, playground, and miniature golf course.
Retaining Wall & Landscaping: The concrete retaining sea wall serves both structural and aesthetic functions, stabilizing the site while enhancing the overall design. Built using form liners with an ashlar pattern to resemble stacked stone and surrounded by native plantings, the wall integrates seamlessly into the coastal environment. The native plantings not only complement the park’s design but also protect the dunes, promoting sustainability. The landscaping design blends the park’s functional spaces with natural beauty, creating a cohesive environment that respects the beach’s unique ecosystem.
Miniature Golf Course: The miniature golf course features 18 creatively designed holes, each reflecting the natural beauty of its coastal surroundings. The course is framed by lush landscaping and themed elements that reinforce the beach setting.
