Plainedge High school fitness center
AWARDED TOP EDUCATION PROJECT BY LONG ISLAND BUSINESS NEWS
MDS Architecture is proud to announce the completion of the new Plainedge Fitness Center at Plainedge High School in Massapequa, NY-- delivering the district’s vision for state-of-the-art athletic facilities.
This transformative project introduces a dynamic, two-level, 12,000-square-foot athletic center designed to support both high-performance athletics and holistic wellness. The facility includes:
· A modern weight training room
· Dedicated cardio fitness area
· Yoga, dance, and aerobics studio
· Wrestling and general fitness room
· An upper-body strength and virtual training corridor
“At Mark Design Studios, we set out to redefine what high school athletic spaces can be,” said Michael Mark, Principal of Mark Design Studios Architecture. “By incorporating not only traditional fitness elements but also spaces for movement, mindfulness, and inclusivity, we’ve created a center that champions health, performance, and community.”
Fully ADA accessible and thoughtfully programmed, the center was also designed with the broader community in mind. Local residents now have access to equipment and group fitness classes through adult education programming during designated hours.
“This new athletic center is the first open gym designed for both student use and community engagement,” said Edward Salina, Jr., Superintendent of Plainedge Public Schools. “We’re proud to provide top-tier facilities that serve our students while giving back to the taxpaying community.”
To further solidify this project’s impact for the community, the project was awarded Top Education Renovation by the Long Island Business News. The completion of this project marks a new chapter for Plainedge High School- one where health, movement, and connection take center stage. MDS is honored to have played a role in bringing this vision to life.
